My New Favorite Daily Ritual: Feeding the Bees

I didn’t have “bees” on my 2026 bingo card… and yet here we are.

Lately, my favorite part of the day is ridiculously simple: I put out sugar water for the wild bees and then just watch them. I mean… I could seriously watch them all day. It’s like tiny, buzzing therapy.

If you’ve never stood outside and watched bees work, let me tell you—those little critters are focused, organized, and completely unbothered by drama. Honestly, we should all take notes.

The Daily Bee Routine

Right now, I’m feeding wild bees about a half gallon of sugar water a day. They show up like it’s happy hour, but with wings and better discipline.

There’s something calming about it:

  • the steady movement

  • the purpose

  • the tiny teamwork

  • the reminder that nature just… keeps going

It’s been one of the most grounding things I’ve done in a while.

And Now I’m Officially “That Bee Lady or just call me Izzy”

After going down the research rabbit hole (as I do), I finally ordered two hives and a couple of books. So yes, this is happening.

I’m still very much in beginner mode, but I’m excited. I’m learning the language of beekeeping, the seasons, the rhythm, what they need, and what they don’t. I’m also learning that bees are equal parts fascinating and humbling.

And honestly? I love having something new to learn that isn’t connected to a screen.

Why Bees, Why Now?

I think part of it is this: the older I get, the more I crave simple, real life moments.

A cup of coffee.
A sunrise.
A quiet walk.
And now… bees.

There’s something beautiful about showing up every day for a small living thing and watching it thrive. It reminds me that consistency matters—and that the little things really are the big things.

So… Welcome to the Bee Chapter 🐝

If you’re reading this and you’re thinking, “Wait, Kelly… bees??” — yep.

I’ll be sharing my beginner journey here:

  • what I’m learning

  • what I’m trying

  • what surprises me

  • and probably what I mess up (because I’m sure that’s coming too)

Stay tuned. The hives are on the way, and I have a feeling this is going to be one of my favorite adventures yet.
